Hi, I'm Kate. I'm an activist and unionist running in the 2027 state election with NSW Socialists.

I've lived most of my life in Newcastle and the Hunter. I'm a PSA member working in the environment field. I'm the daughter of two public school teachers who went on strike often when I was young - they taught me the government and the powerful don't give you anything without a fight.

When I was at Kurri High School, the light fixtures filled with water when there was heavy rain and the photocopying budget ran out in Term 3. It was obvious that the wealthy and the politicians didn't care about us. That hasn't changed - we see public services gutted or privatised while billionaires and investors run rampant.

Politicians at all levels of government are in the pockets of the rich, and out of touch with ordinary people. There's no excuse in a rich country like this to have renters applying for dozens of overpriced properties, and home buyers competing with rich investors and then shackled to the banks for decades.

Labor have taken Wallsend, Newcastle and the Hunter for granted for decades. Their 2005 privatisation of the Mater Hospital has been deadly, with mould and maggots risking patient and staff health. The John Hunter Hospital has regular ramping and delayed treatments due to staff shortages, yet overpaid politicians won't give nurses a fair pay rise and safe ratios. Workers and patients deserve so much better.

I'm running because I want to see public healthcare in public hands, well resourced and with skilled health workers paid what they deserve. I want to see frequent, free public transport, with an end to the privatisation of buses and ferries.

I've been a community organiser and activist since 2010, and was involved in campaigns for refugees, equal marriage, Palestine and the environment. I organised the NSW Socialists contingent to the People's Blockade of Newcastle Harbour. We need urgent climate action, we’ve already seen devastating flooding and landslips locally which will only get worse.

Capitalism is rigged for the rich. If elected, I’ll fight for our community and for the better world that we need and deserve.
