Oppose AUKUS & militarism

War and militarism always serves the rich and powerful at the expense of workers’ lives and living standards. Our governments, both federal and state, have locked us into an imperialist alliance with the US, the most dangerous threat to peace in the world.

We’ve seen the immense brutality of US wars. Australia’s own military personnel committed war crimes and heinous acts during the disastrous forever wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and many other theatres. Yet Labor and Liberal Governments have sought ever deeper integration with the US war machine at immense cost.$368 billion dollars that could be spent on desperately needed public housing, transport, renewable energy and aged care is instead going towards US manufactured nuclear-powered submarines. If Albanese and Minns get their way the base for these submarines will be Port Kembla.

Australian politicians have continued to back Israel’s genocide against the Palestinians despite overwhelming opposition from the Australian people. Minns has rolled out the welcome mat for war criminals and weapons manufacturers while brutalising anti-war activists.

Socialism is a movement for peace and solidarity with the oppressed peoples of the world. We need to tear up the US alliance, kick US bases out of Australia, break the AUKUS pact and sanction Israel.

We’ll fight for

Break the AUKUS pact

  • Block any AUKUS bases from being established in NSW.
  • End all state government cooperation with AUKUS including research and industry subsidies and sponsorship. This includes ending the UNSW research program, the AUKUS Connect manufacturing program and any collaboration or funding from Investment NSW. Redirect all state investment into socially useful research.
  • Advocate for Australian withdrawal from the AUKUS agreement and demand the federal government abandon the nuclear-powered submarine program, redirecting the funds to housing, healthcare and climate transition.

No to nuclear weapons

  • Ban nuclear-armed and nuclear-powered vessels from Victorian ports.
  • End Victorian government relations with and divest from all companies involved in the development or sale of nuclear weapons, technology or components.

Solidarity with Palestine

  • Cut ties with Israel and impose sanctions now. In NSW this means breaking the NSW-Israel research and development cooperation agreement, cooperation with the Australia-Israel chamber of commerce (AICC) and any similar partnerships.
  • Enforce arrest warrants issued by international bodies against any Israeli officials who visit Victoria.
  • Launch war crimes investigations into former or current IDF soldiers residing in NSW.
  • End all MOUs and partnerships between NSW universities and Israeli universities.
  • Ban Israeli-flagged ships from NSW ports.
  • Sponsor a refugee program to support Palestinian refugees living in NSW or those who would like access to refuge.
